This one-week (36-hour) course is an introduction to the fundamentals and principles of constructing work zones. The course will include the safe installation of appropriate signage and channelizing devices used in the setup and removal of flagging zones and single lane closures for express lane work. Students will be introduced to the Ohio Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (OMUTCD) guidance and standard drawings for several commonly used zones to determine appropriate sign distances and channelizing device spacing. Field practice will also include the proper setup and usage of arrow boards and message boards.
