Training Center Updates

OLTC is Constructing a CDL Training Facility

The Ohio Laborers’ Training Center has an exciting new facility update for members. As of May 7th, the Ohio Laborers’ Training & Apprenticeship Trust Fund Board of Trustees approved the construction of a CDL training pad to facilitate Commercial Driver License training. The CDL training pad is currently being constructed on the training center’s main campus in Howard, OH. Ruhlin Construction was awarded the bid for the project with the subcontractors Kokosing, Strawser Paving, and John K. Leohner Co.

For the past year, the Ohio Laborers’ Training Center has outsourced CDL training for members whose signatory contractor or Local requested the training on their behalf due to the high cost of the training and the extensive time commitment required. The Board of Trustees and Executive Director Matt Flynn are hopeful that this update will allow more members to complete CDL training to elevate their careers as the demand for CDL training continues to grow.

“The ability to provide the CDL behind-the-wheel training here at the training center will be an outstanding addition to the course offerings already available to our members,” said Executive Director Flynn, “We envision this course being a great opportunity for our members further to market themselves to our current and future signatory contractors.”

The CDL training pad is expected to be completed in August 2024. Check out our Staff Updates article for more training center updates, including information about the Ohio Laborers’ Training Center’s new Executive Director and Training Director.
